Bio
McClintock High School Special Teams Coordinator and Assistant Wide Receivers Coach Victor Yates brings an extensive Arizona football background and years of experience developing and mentoring student-athletes to the Chargers program. A Tucson native, Yates attended Palo Verde High School, where he played quarterback and defensive back. As a senior, he earned Honorable Mention 4A All-State honors at defensive back and was a member of Palo Verde’s 2005 State Championship team.
Following high school, Yates continued his football career at the University of Arizona, joining the Wildcats as a walk-on defensive back. He remained with the Arizona football program from 2006 through 2010, building a reputation around the program for his character, energy, work ethic, and commitment to his teammates. His impact extended beyond playing time, as he was nominated for the Rudy Award in 2010, an honor recognizing character, courage, contribution, and commitment within college football.
Yates has since carried those experiences into coaching and mentoring the next generation of Arizona football players. Before joining McClintock, he spent multiple seasons as a Varsity Wide Receivers Coach at Brophy College Preparatory, where he helped develop the Broncos' receiving corps and worked with college-bound student-athletes. His coaching philosophy extends beyond football, with an emphasis on academics, personal development, and preparing players for opportunities after high school.
Now serving as McClintock’s Special Teams Coordinator and Assistant Wide Receivers Coach, Yates brings his championship background, Pac-12 playing experience, and years of mentorship to the Chargers. His goal is to develop players who understand the importance of preparation, effort, accountability, academics, and doing their job for the team. Whether working with McClintock’s special teams units or developing wide receivers, Coach Yates brings energy and experience to helping Charger student-athletes become better football players and better young men.
