Will Shaffer

Bio

McClintock High School Assistant Running Backs and Linebackers Coach Will Shaffer brings an accomplished Arizona high school and collegiate playing background to the Chargers football program. A Tempe native, Shaffer attended Arizona powerhouse Saguaro High School, where he was a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and track & field. On the football field, he developed into one of Arizona’s top linebacker prospects, helping Saguaro win a 4A State Championship while establishing himself as a standout on both sides of the football.

Following Saguaro, Shaffer continued his football career at Arizona State University, where he contributed at linebacker and became a valuable member of the Sun Devils’ special teams units. During his time at ASU, he earned Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week honors after blocking a punt against Oregon State and eventually earned his first collegiate start against Washington State. Shaffer also excelled academically, earning his bachelor’s degree in sociology in just three years.

Shaffer later continued his career at Abilene Christian University, where he developed into one of the premier linebackers in FCS football. Across two seasons at ACU, Shaffer started all 28 games and recorded 242 tackles, leading the United Athletic Conference in tackles in both seasons. His performance earned him multiple All-America honors, and he was named a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, which recognizes the top defensive player in FCS football.

Now serving as McClintock’s Assistant Running Backs and Linebackers Coach, Shaffer brings championship experience, Division I football, All-American success, and firsthand knowledge of Arizona high school football to the Chargers. His experience playing both sides of the football provides him with a unique perspective when developing McClintock’s running backs and linebackers. Having recently completed the journey from an Arizona high school prospect to an elite college football player, Shaffer can also provide Charger student-athletes with valuable insight into development, recruiting, preparation, and what it takes to compete at the next level.
